Double "O" arches
I climbed through the lower of the Double "O" arches then climbed up to a vantage point above both arches, to take this photo.
The day before I arrived in Arches National Park, I had covered a lot of ground (From my Sinks Canyon camp along the Popo Agie River in Wyoming; a visit to South Pass; and a long dirt road visit to Nine Mile Canyon). I had arrived at Arches late at night, so I camped within a stone's throw of the Colorado River, outside Moab, Utah.
I got up before dawn and entered Arches National Park. My goal was to make the hike to Double "O" arches and photograph Landscape arches along the way. The morning light was beautiful on the sandstone formations as I entered the park.
I met few other hikers on the trail to Double O arches. Most that I did meet were dedicated photographers with LOTS of camera gear.
The route from Landscape arch to Double O arch is an interesting one, with a fun section atop a sandstone fin, givine unlimited views in all directions.
Only two people had arrived before me at Double O arches. A couple from the Czech Republic with nice camera gear. They spoke little English, so it was a brief "conversation" with them.
I had hiked to most of the places in Arches before but never to Double O. It was a very worthwhile destination.
Though the light was great in the early morning, I must admit that I had a lot of difficulty getting good photos, especially at Double O arches (my lack of photography skills for sure). Still I got enough "keepers" to preserve good memories of the hike, for me.
Hiking back to the trailhead, I kept running into more and more and more people (those that had got a later start on the hike). Most were nice, others were what I call "Yahoo" tourists. The ones that walk four abreast on a trail and think nothing of forcing other hikers to the "ditch" along the trail - - if you know what I mean.
Finally, when I got back to Landscape arch - - I met the "mother lode" of tourists, both in number and in style. They of course had every right as me, to be enjoying the spectacular scenery.
Still, I couldn't wait to leave Arches National Park and the ton of people, and get on to my next destination (Cedar Mesa and Road Canyon), where I knew I would see some great and historic country AND have a little solitude while camping and taking my hikes there.
Double Flare Crossover
I know this is kind of crazy but three things.
1) The double flare cross over in the water.
2) The Golden Gate Bridge fits under a footpath bridge.
3) If you view this large, you can see a couple standing between me and the Golden Gate Bridge.
